13-year-old specially-abled girl found dead in Hooghly; Murder and rape suspected

A 13-year-old specially-abled girl from Kanaipur Colony in Hooghly district was found dead this morning in a deserted field in the Napada area. The girl had been missing since Tuesday evening around 4 PM when a local youth allegedly lured her out of her home. No information about her whereabouts was available until the body was discovered.

Local residents spotted the body in the field and immediately informed the police. The police recovered the body and sent it to Shrirampur Walls Hospital for postmortem examination. The family was initially not allowed to see the body, leading to protests by local residents outside the police station.

Chandanagar Police Commissioner Amit P. Jawalgi confirmed that a murder and rape case has been registered and that the investigation is underway. He added that the family will soon be called for identification of the body. An extensive search operation involving sniffer dogs and divers was conducted in the area starting early this morning.

The main suspect, Asim Majumdar, was arrested from the Khariyal area of Dunkini and brought to the Uttarpara police station. Senior police officials including Commissioner Amit P. Jawalgi, DCP Arnab Biswas, and ACP Ali Raja visited the crime scene and supervised the investigation.
